Bluetooth Keyboard/Laser A Digital Swiss-Army Knife - Wireless Keyboard
Posted on 07/20/2011 by Focalprice
Have you ever had to do one of the following things:
- Make a slideshow presentation without someone to turn the pages
- Surf the net on your phone/tablet
- Write an email/play games on a phone/tablet
- Browse the net/search for a media file from your television
People who spend a lot of time with multimedia find themselves doing these things a lot, and it is making pocket sized keyboards an extremely handy, if not essential gadget.
Today, I'm going to look at a device that has a Bluetooth keyboard, trackpad and laser.
I played with the 2.4GHz Mini Wireless Remote Control Keyboard Mouse Presenter Combo (Black) and think might just be this decade's version of the Swiss Army Knife
But before we get into the strengths and weaknesses of the device lets take a look at its specifications:
- Functions:Laser, Bluetooth keyboard, trackpad
- Operational frequency:2.4GHz
- Battery:Built-in lithium Ion
- Bluetooth compatibility:Nokia, Samsung(Android), Motorolla (Android) , HTC (Windows Mobile)
- Weight: 259 grams
One thing that I really like about this device is how everything is wrapped up into one device. The laser is on the right side beside the trackpad, the trackpad can be easily used in conjunction with the keyboard and the bluetooth dongle is built into a cavity at the back of the device.
This means that you essentially have to worry about one extra device when heading out for business or for pleasure and everything is accessible should you need it.
This is great considering all the things it can control. I paired it with a Samsung phone, a laptop and a desktop with no problems whatsoever and would have liked to try it with a tablet if I had the opportunity.
Initially I started out wondering what to do with the device but the more I played the more I discovered. The trackpad works great as both a mouse for the computer and a game controller for the phone.
It was also fairly easy to set up and it took just a few steps to set up (I will be putting up directions on setting up this keyboard on Monday).
There weren't too many things I found wrong with this keyboard.
One thing I did have a problem with was its compatibility with phones.
While there were no problems getting it to connect to the Samsung Galaxy I couldn't get it to connect with my Apanda A90.
In fact, if your phone isn't made by one of the people below then it might not work be compatible with it:
- Nokia
- Samsung (Android)
- Motorola (Android)
- HTC (Windows Mobile)
Another problem I had was the keypad. As with most Bluetooth keyboard the keys weren't the most responsive you wouldn't want to write out anything longer than an 12-18 character password on a regular basis.
However, in saying that most of the things you will end up using this for, web browsing from the couch, switching windows on your computer etc, don't require much typing.
So would I buy it...Lets just say I'm talking to my wife about getting my own 2.4GHz Mini Wireless Remote Control Keyboard Mouse Presenter and at $41.00 I don't think she will take much convincing.
Check it out now here, or check back at the FocalPrice blog on Monday when I will show you how to pair the device with a computer and with a phone and exactly what you can use it for.
